S E E K E E L E E

Had these thoughts while I was in the shower earlier and thought I should share it! Whatever you read below are my personal opinion and experiences and just for fun! Share if you can relate hah!

1. Change in Taste
You no longer like your food to be too sweet. Coffee without sugar taste more classy. Cakes that are less sweetened taste more expensive. You can finally accept cilantro in your mouth. You begin to feel guilty eating KFC, Texas Chicken. When you finally like pork belly, it's about too late to enjoy them

2. Change in Fashion
Simplicity IS fashion to you. Time to chuck the statement necklaces, bangles, earrings and begin stocking on smaller accessories like a simple plain looking ring, pearl earrings and very thin necklace. You feel almost embarrassed wearing the big ones. Well, now it's all about being all classy... So plain ones will do just well.

3. Change in Lifestyle
You begin to appreciate going out in smaller groups. You're now able to shop and eat alone without feeling MEH. You find it a luxury to have the time to stay at home, light some scented candles, turn on some jazz music and sip on a hot cuppa. You prefer life to be slower pace too. Being in the hot shower is heaven to you. You don't want to come out from the bathroom. You have packs of tissue in your bag now! You sleep later because you refuse to sleep with the fear of waking up to work the next day. You begin to hate routines. Before I forget, you PMS like NEVER before!

4. Change in Priorities
You begin to reflect more on yourself and notice what the important things are. ie: Spiritual life, family, close friends, finance and future. You start planning out your future around the priorities mentioned above that you never had any clue 2 years ago. You choose your friends wisely to the point of thinking 10 times before accepting those who add you on Facebook or request to follow you on Instagram.

5. Change in Expenditures
Funny how when you grow older, you earn more than before but you get to spend less... Commitments like study loan, car loan, insurance and bills creep in. You think more than twice if you should buy that RM39.90 bag. You put it into the cart wish for it to be on sale item list before you hit the check out button. You (try to) learn how to budget and fail numerous times. But you still try... By downloading the perfect financial app from the app store hoping it would help your financial status. Haha!

Although some of the changes I mentioned seem sad, I am still enjoying life so please don't be too afraid to grow old  up. Peace out!

Thank you for reading!

Sheryn

Hard Rock Hotel Penang is back with their splendid spread of holly jolly Christmas buffets this December! Let me just talk about the good ol' times... Nobody knows the feeling of missing a place as much as I missed Hard Rock Hotel Penang. Oh, the smell, the sound, the entire ambiance! It felt so so good to be back to where I belong. It felt like home... Just like going home for Christmas!

This year Hard Rock Hotel Penang will be offering its Christmas spreads on 24th and 25th December. There will be a buffet dinner on Christmas Eve and buffet lunch on Christmas Day.

On Christmas Eve, there will be a Rock N' Roll Buffet at Starz Diner from 6.30pm to 10.30pm. Read on for more info on the pricing and other stuff at the bottom of this post! I am so fortunate to be able to taste some of the delectable picks from the spread. Patrons get to enjoy a wide selection of yummy food from seafood on ice, sushi bar, carving station, action station, Asian cuisine and more. The highlight of the buffet as suggested by the hotel is the Confit of Duck Leg & Pink Radish with Cinnamon Apple. I personally tasted this dish and I would say that it did not disappoint. I am a duck meat fan and I love the blend of savory and sweet in this dish especially the cinnamon apple strips. They go so well with the duck leg!

Turkey Consomme with Mushroom Dumpling (Christmas Eve)
The Mushroom dumpling is da bomb! I have never tasted this before. It's something like ravioli but not ravioli, such a smart invention to mix Asian and Western cuisine. Good job, chef! The dumplings will be served with soup. It's such a warm dish. I love this!

Grilled Tahini Lamb Chop anf Lamb Kofta on Baba Ghanouj

Roasted Whole Turkey and Spiced Chestnut Bread Stuffing with

Hello everyone! I turned 27 about 3 days ago. Hah! Now you know how OLD I am. Age is just a number okay... (Consoling myself) It doesn't mean you enjoy less when you grow older. It depends on who you surround yourself with and the small choices you make every day.

Almost every year I have a story to tell.. How my friends and loved ones celebrate with me etc. This year, nothing new! Haha sorry I am loved. Lol! I had 5 surprises up till my real birthday. I cannot thank all my friends enough for everything they've given me. Time, effort, money and most of all - love. Serene, my bff appeared in majority of the celebrations because BFF. HAHA so thankful and grateful for this 16 years of friendship!

Joanne celebrated with me over a glamorous steamboat dinner followed by a cute little pot cake... She also got me gifts! Thanking God for a thoughtful friend...

My best friends from high school surprised me during my lunch time and some of them took Uber all the way here (30-40 mins away!). Got another cake, free lunch, balloons and presents!

Best friends from Hard Rock, BFF & Raileighgirl surprised me for lunch time again just few days before my birthday!

When I returned to work and was really tensed while solving some mega technical problem, these people came into the meeting room with a cake and a song... They are my new colleagues! Say hi!

Celebrated with a super yummy cake during Life Group by a bunch of church friends on Friday night. I'm carrying Elena (my god dotter) she turned 2 a day before me. Ivan on my left is just a notty disturbing person. Hahaha! Again, a surprise. Haha it's not done yet!

And to top it off, the ultimate surprise that made me cry....

These guys!! I have no words to describe how grateful I am for them. The effort the BFF and all of them just made me speechless. What have I ever done to deserve this? No idea.

Thank you Hong, for the great hospitality at your place <3

Yummy Cake!!

Although not mentioned much in this post, to my love, thank you for everything you've done for me. Thank you for taking me out and spending my birthday with me. <3

BFF and I... Such a talented girl!
Thank you for setting up and clearing up the place, guys!

To Elin, Hong,Karen, Jesmine, Angeline, Carine, Jess... T H A N K Y O U ! !

Like I said, I am moved beyond words and have nothing much to say. Just really happy, content and feeling very blessed.

Bring it on, 27!

Thank you for reading!

5.15pm today (30/7/2017), I was in the retirement home my grandparents are now living in, chit chatting away with my grandfather about the past... I haven't been frequent with my visits for a long time now and decided to bring them out for a dinner treat today. Before we left for dinner, Kung Kung wanted to go to the toilet. Since mummy made some Chinese dessert, she had asked him to have some. As he lifts the spoon we saw him shivering vigorously, something like Parkinson's.  He then complained it was too cold (believe me it was like 35°c that time). The shiver continued and he turned yellow. As a chatty person, he still wanted to speak but no one could understand what he was saying. Later on he was breathing very heavily, as if he was going to....

At that time his whole body was still shivering. Sean was holding him tightly and rubbing his palm so he wouldn't feel so cold. All wrapped up in his thick blanket, he was still shaking. I quickly went to grab his pair of long pants so he could be warm. I lifted the pants up it was heavy. I reached out to the pockets and picked out some used tissue paper, some papre, a plastic cup (omg why?) & the last thing I picked from his pocket was a photo of me when I was 5. I couldn't hold my tears the moment I saw the photo. I looked at it while listening to the sound of his heavy breathing and I was shaken. "I am not ready!", I told God. "Please, Lord don't take him yet!" "Heal him, comfort him" were the words in my mind the entire time. Thankfully after close to 20 mins of shiver and heavy breatbkng, Kung Kung was finally calmed and stable. I refuse to let him sleep. I continued talking to him until the ambulance came.

I couldn't even explain the intensity of the few moments when he was shivering, yellow and looked like shutting down. We fed him hot Milo as he refused to drink. We didn't know what to do but pray..

... The photo I found  was me acting on stage in my kindergarten's annual graduation. Behind the photo were scribbles of what event that photo was taken at. It was 1995. I was then 5. I was technically brought up by both my grandparents and I still cannot imagine them not being around anymore because they really, mean the world to me. Just the thought of losing them would cause me to tear buckets.

At 9.30pm, we received the best news ever. Kung Kung can finally go back and only needs to be on antibiotics for a week. Although they are suspecting a lung infection, I am still thankful that he made it! Thank you, Jesus!

It's Day-15 at my new work place today. I'm having my lunch... Alone. Not because no one asked but I feel way way way more comfortable eating alone. Or you can simply put it as I very beh cham.

Sitting here thinking to myself why the hell did I leave Hard Rock. Is the money worth it? Is the distance worth it? Is the environment worth it? Is the job worth it? YES, that's what I thought but NO. For now, I don't think so. As much as I hate to complain, this is probably 1 of the very few ways I find relief in expressing myself. I miss everything Hard Rock. Not exactly the brand but the smell, the atmosphere and most of all, the PEOPLE. They became a part of my life that I feel now is missing. I miss the fun, the laughter, the frustration with certain people. Now all those seem unreachable. The things I have on my plate are so, so tough for my simple brain. Many would say, "Aiya, it's only your 2nd week here, give yourself a break. Don't be so harsh." Well as the saying goes, it's easier said than done. Exactly! I couldn't agree more. It feels awful not being able to do work if I don't spend 3 hours staring at the screen OK?

I try to find little things to be thankful about everyday since I started here. Some days can be easy most of the days hard. Today is one of the harder days to find something to be thankful about other than being alive. Is it because I expect too much from myself? Or is it simply because I know deep down that this job is just plain difficult? Having a number of tasks given to me that I probably have ZERO understanding and not having the freedom to ask with my mouth (everything goes through Skype - even speaking to the person 5cm away from me), I FEEL TRAPPED. I only can go into the toilet, pray like crazy for God to help me...

For now, I just gotta finish up my lunch and get back to work.

Lord help.

So the last week of 2016, I went on a family trip to Pontian Johor. We spent 1 day just travelling from Penang - Johor and 4 days / 4 nights in Pontian, Johor. Booked 1 family room in Oikos Hotel for all 4 of us coz we cheapo like that haha! It only cost us RM680 for 4 nights. Amenities provided include daily bottled water, housekeeping, toiletries and to our surprise, TURN DOWN GIFTS!! They were Hersey's kisses chocolates. They ain't stingy yo. I'd recommend this hotel if you're not expecting a closet, a table, breakfast and space. If you're in for simple living (unlike my mum, haha!), this place would most likely suit you as the room design is pretty modern and simple. The hotel is located next to the sea and just right below it are 2 restaurants which sadly, we didn't manage to try. By the looks of it, the food could be yummy as when we return from our daily shenanigans, the place is packed. Parking, although not FOC, the place is relatively new so there were quite many slots that do not require tickets, otherwise you can get the tickets from any mini mart.

Seeing the title of this post, the next few paragraphs would obviously be about food. Strictly FOOD.

1. Sate Kajang HJ Samuri, Dengkil R&R

We stopped by at Dengkil R&R while we're on our way to Johor for some Sate Kajang! If you ask me why satay kajang is so femes, I honestly don't know but since it's so famous, why not? We had the chicken, beef & fish for RM0.98 per stick and lamb for RM1.60 per stick. I personally like the lamb and beef. They were really tender. We also ordered Nasi Impit coz we hungry!

They don't serve onions unless you ask for it. Satay tastes so much better with onions. So ask for it!

Nasi Impit. Something like Ketupat without the leaf.
There are 2 types of sauces as you can see, we didn't know that they were supposed to be mixed together until halfway nomming the food. The moment we added the dark red sauce into the nutty sauce, we went to heaven. If you want additional sauce, it is chargeable. Sorry I forgot to get the info but I suppose it doesn't cost a million dollars. :D

Coconut water was only RM4.50 (3 people shared this btw)

Taste: 7/10

Sate Kajang HJ Samuri Opening Hours
Daily except Friday : 11.00am – 11.15pm
Friday : 4.00pm – 11.45pm.

2. Or Hwu Restaurant, Yong Peng, Johor

After lunch, we were headed to this famous Fuzhou (Foo Chow) restaurant located at Yong Peng Johor and I tell you, this was the BEST meal we had the whole trip. Shouldn't have set a standard so high! Haha. If you happen to go there, these items are all the MUST-TRY!

This is the appetizer! It was really good and refreshing. The guava is marinated with dried orange peel. Not asam powder.

Homemade pork balls was AMAZEBALLS! Seriously BEST I EVER HAD!
These fuzhou pork balls were 'real' meat. They aren't processed pork balls you eat at steamboats so the meat taste really good. If you're a health-conscious eater, forget it this time coz they're simply worth it.

Fuzhou Fried Noodles

The Fuzhou fried noodles is quite similar to our Penang's Tai Lok Mee. However the noodle is a little flatter than ours. They don't fry this with pork lard so it's not so fragrant but I still dug in. Just for you info, Penangite's taste buds are really spoiled with MSG and salt so food from other states might be a little less salty so you could taste the real thanggg.

Egg Soup
The name of this dish is as easy as A B C. The Egg soup! Haha my whole family loved the soup. It has a strong hint of vinegar and taste something like "Mee Sua Koh" in Penang. Just that I prefer this one. We added the all-time favourite Fuzhou fishballs into the soup. If you don't already know, Fuzhou fishballs are not like any other. They have babies in them. HAHA kidding. They have marinated minced pork in them and they taste oh so good!

Marmite Bai Ku Wang
Slices of pork fried with marmite sauce. My other half would die for these! They're a little crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. To top it up, SWEET SAUCE!!

Red Wine Chicken
If you're patronizing a Fuzhou restaurant and not order this, you better don't go. This is A MUST EAT!! Once in a while, my mum would cook this dish and we eat it with mee sua (longevity noodle) and I always go 2 rounds. However, sorry mummy... This one wins. It's too good to miss!

Taste: 10/10

Or Hwu Restaurant, Yong Peng
Daily: 12pm - 10pm
Address: 214, Jalan Besar, Yong Peng, Johor

3. Kheng Guan Hiong, Pontian, Johor

My sis lived in Pontian for almost 5 years and she recommended a few places for us to eat at. This place is one of them. The locals call this place "Ah Ngau" and no one knows why but you can easily locate it on Waze when you type 'Kheng Guan Hiong'. My experience here was a bad one, sadly. When we first stepped into the coffee shop, we had to figure out how things work here. Like where should we place order and what do they offer. No one could be bothered with our existence coz everyone was rather busy. And just FYI, the coffee shop is a small one if you compare with the ones we have in Penang. So secondly, when my mum went to order with the lady boss, she sorta got impatient with my mum and didn't explain much coz there was a little language barrier. We waited for 20 minutes before our toasts arrived. No doubt, the toast and coffee were really good but if I were to choose I wouldn't be back here again. So it's up to you if you are up for this!

I ended up ordering Roti Canai coz my soft boiled eggs didn't come at all. Roti was ok.

Taste: 8/10

Kheng Guan Hiong
Opening hours: Daily except Monday, 5am - 5pm
Address: 15, Jalan Limau Kasturi, Taman Suraya Indah, Pontian, Johor (behind Pontian market)

4. Jiayi Bei Coffee Shop, Pekan Nenas, Johor

Here, we had Vietnamese Pho! How we found out about this place was simply a coincidence. We were on our way to JB but didn't know what to eat so my mum suggested that we stop when we see coffee shop. So we did. To our surprise, the pho tasted so so good. I especially like the clear soup with a little sour taste. The pho is RM7 per bowl and contains beef so if you don't take beef, I feel you!! Besides the pho, the coffee here is AMAZING!

Taste: 10/10

Jiayi Bei
Opening Hours: Monday - Sunday, 8.30am - 7pm
Address: Lorong A-4, 82500 Pekan Nanas, Johor
Day Off : Alternate Thursdays

Stay tuned for Part 2! Didn't wanna bore you so yeah!
