S E E K E E L E E

The long drama drew to a happy ending... On 9th May, the nation came together and did something crazily amazing, I believe majority of us can never fathom. Well for most part of the doing, it was the heroes whom we now call our government!  I am incredibly proud and honored to be living in this time to be able to witness what we call a history making event. Malaysia is now governed by ex-opposition (still something I NEED to remind myself, we are no longer with the opposition!) We are now WITH the government!

We cast our votes in the morning of 9th May and the polling results were supposed to be out at 8pm-ish, however because of some tactics by the previous government there were delays. The nation waited until 3am for the results.

Never Malaysia has seen these numbers.

And it was not over, the next day (10th May) at 9.30am, our PM was set for the swearing in ceremony but again, was delayed until 9.45pm. The wait was worth it!

I am sharing a very good commentary by WILLIAM DE CRUZ, former Global Bersih president below:

Malaysians set a world benchmark, a gold standard in how to reclaim democracy against all odds yesterday.

The government coalition that had lorded over a country with various alliances for 61 years threw everything against its citizens for the 14th general election - the judiciary, the police, the universities system, the election commission, its very parliament, race and religion. Gerrymandering and malapportionment saw some federal constituencies with as little as a few thousand voters sit side-by-side with seats that housed more than 150,000 registered voters.

This was a voting population that saw its very government as adversary. Yet, like no other country in modern history, millions turned up yesterday and overthrew a murderous, corrupt regime without shedding one drop of blood.
There were no riots, no looting, burning of cars, homes or shops, ugly manifestations of religious or racial bigotry, ignorance or intolerance.
Instead, the people of a multi-racial country that is home to the world's fastest-growing religion, Islam, as well as the two biggest races on the planet, Chinese and Indians, embraced one another to rise above despots, division, discrimination and the albatross of the voting system itself, to unseat a prime minister and coalition that would have sold Malaysian down the drain in return for self-preservation, enrichment and aggrandisement.

The plot twists and ironies that led Malaysia to this historic day could not have been better scripted by the best of Hollywood.
Two men, powerfully galvanising individuals who were each nemesis to the other for nearly two decades - Anwar Ibrahim and Dr Mahathir Mohamad - forged the most unlikely of political alliances.

One remains a prisoner, the other put him there in shameful circumstances that were played out under the glare of world media spotlights. The prisoner has shown how the sheer power of forgiveness can transcend the most painful of pasts. The image of Anwar and Mahathir shaking hands as allies, at one of Anwar's more recent court appearances, is now regarded by many as the turning point for the alliance that is now government-in-waiting. The jailor and nation-builder declares he has now to free Anwar.

The most honourable Lim Kit Siang, Malaysia's longest-standing patriot, a walking symbol of long-standing and unrelenting parliamentary opposition, and the epitome of statesmanship, has carried magnanimity and self-sacrifice to another plane entirely.
Lim has embraced Mahathir, who had also thrown him into jail, and placed his aspirations for Malaysia centre stage for the sake of a pact the likes of which no other country has seen.

And yesterday, out of racism, corruption and bigotry emerged unity, determination and a sense of purpose - to forge a new future, a new hope, a new country for ourselves and our children. Malaysians have shown a uniqueness that is as palpable as it is inspiring, and we must give ourselves the time and space to be very, very proud of what we have achieved today.

We have snatched back democracy from the jaws of destruction, so Malaysia may be rebuilt all over, with the multi-racial, democratic and egalitarian ideals of its founding fathers and earliest patriots. We have come from the race riots of May 13, 1969, to the multi-racial juggernaut of May 9, 2018. We fought back without bloodshed or violence.
We have returned “Merdeka” - freedom, independence - to our shores. The future is now full of promise, and it's a promise we made to ourselves.

The singular event of May 9 will powerfully resonate forever in our history as a glorious chapter in a people's tenacity. Yesterday, Malaysians became a beacon to the rest of the world, and delivered a new lesson in non-violent opposition.
The world has not seen such a reversal of fortune as Malaysia's. We are a walking, living legacy.

This is Malaysia, like no other country in the world.
We need to remember, the weight is not on Tun M alone. These are the leaders who will berjuang with him!

I love, love, love this shot! It shows what a good support a wife can be to a husband and what it does to the country!

I've shed much tears during the entire process and I believe that we are set for a bright future ahead of us. Of course, the cost of change should not only be upon our leaders but we ourselves need to start with right habits. First off - KILL racism. Let's try...

It's that time of the year again where (usually) mothers/ grandmothers crack their heads for dinner ideas for the annual family affair - Reunion Dinner. To save them the trouble, eat out! Hard Rock Hotel Penang is whipping up some really good pork-free Chinese New Year dinners this year. The dinners will be served in Starz Diner with wide choices of local Chinese and International Cuisines. What's special about the buffet is that you don't have to worry about the traditional activity of Yee Sang tossing. It's included in the buffet, guys!

Guys I kid you not Chef Heng (which I know personally hahaha!) represented Malaysia at the Chinese Cuisine World Championship 2017 and won the Chinese Cuisine Chef (Gold Medal) in Shenzhen, China! And he's cooking for you leh.

Besides these savory dishes, there will also be lip-smacking desserts served like Chinese Traditional Leng Chee Kang with Loh Han Koh, Glutinous Rice Cake, Nyonya Pulut Hitam with Glutinous Rice Ball and Pandan Layer Cake.

Starz Diner will be serving 2 buffet dinners this year, one on 15th and the other on 16th February 2018. Don't be like my family eat KFC on the first day of CNY okay? You can start booking your dinners now so you don't end up like me haha!

This is my 100th blog entry and I'm soooo happy to announce that I am engaged!
He liked me (obviously) and he put a ring on me. 😝

On the last day of 2017, 1 day before our 5th anniversary as a courting couple, he proposed and boy did I underestimate him. >.< Nothing seemed suspicious at all, they're such good actors! It's a shame that I don't have the photos but I'd probably update them here once I receive them.

So what happened was, we were going to our friend's (Hong's) place for NYE BBQ party at the beach and when we arrived, I saw tikki torches along the way to the beach and on the beach, there was this camp fire in the middle, surrounded by more tikki torches in a circle. It looked really nice ok. But, it didn't hint me at all.

And when everyone was just 'preparing' I was having a burp battle with Karen just like the good ol' days! Haha! Please excuse me for being myself. And all of a sudden my cute lil' god dotter called out to me, passed me a small card. I asked if someone gave it to her but she just remained silent. As I was trying to unfold the envelope, I saw my name written in front. Until that moment, I was still not at all suspicious and thought it was a Christmas card or something.  Then as I opened it... I knew immediately what was happening. I could feel a sudden numbness in my body. As if everything was a dream and I was a little confused if it was really happening. Also at that very moment, I looked around. I was looking for him. Then I saw an entourage walking down from the staircase along the tikki torches set up along the way. They were wearing white. He was holding a bouquet of monstera leaves, baby breaths and pink daisies. HOW CUTE!! I need to thank my all time bestie, Serene for this amazing selection. I am not really into real flora but those 3 are probably the only ones I like.

The entourage all walked to the middle, somewhere near the camp fire where I was squatting (coz I was talking to my 2+ Y/O god dotter)... And I was so overwhelmed I can't even describe that feeling. He changed his attire omg. I was already tearing. In my heart, just hoping my sister would witness all this, I saw her walking out towards me and guys, I wept. I had to control so bad to stop crying coz I'd look extra bad in photos haha! So many people were there, including my parents, his parents and siblings and many close friends. I wished there were more close friends there but I understand it's not easy to ask 100 people to keep the top secret. Hah!

He said a bunch of stuff which I clearly cannot remember now but he got on his knees. I was still in shock. He asked "Will You Marry Me?" and I laughed and said "YES!" so he put the ring on my finger.

My lovely fam bam!
I want to thank everyone for planning with him behind my back, keeping it a secret so that I can experience the surprise, those who decorated, made the fire, cooked, bought food, took photos and videos, and by just being there. Thank you guys! You guys rock my socksss!!

P/S: All the photos posted here are of really low quality because WhatsApp.

Had these thoughts while I was in the shower earlier and thought I should share it! Whatever you read below are my personal opinion and experiences and just for fun! Share if you can relate hah!

1. Change in Taste
You no longer like your food to be too sweet. Coffee without sugar taste more classy. Cakes that are less sweetened taste more expensive. You can finally accept cilantro in your mouth. You begin to feel guilty eating KFC, Texas Chicken. When you finally like pork belly, it's about too late to enjoy them

2. Change in Fashion
Simplicity IS fashion to you. Time to chuck the statement necklaces, bangles, earrings and begin stocking on smaller accessories like a simple plain looking ring, pearl earrings and very thin necklace. You feel almost embarrassed wearing the big ones. Well, now it's all about being all classy... So plain ones will do just well.

3. Change in Lifestyle
You begin to appreciate going out in smaller groups. You're now able to shop and eat alone without feeling MEH. You find it a luxury to have the time to stay at home, light some scented candles, turn on some jazz music and sip on a hot cuppa. You prefer life to be slower pace too. Being in the hot shower is heaven to you. You don't want to come out from the bathroom. You have packs of tissue in your bag now! You sleep later because you refuse to sleep with the fear of waking up to work the next day. You begin to hate routines. Before I forget, you PMS like NEVER before!

4. Change in Priorities
You begin to reflect more on yourself and notice what the important things are. ie: Spiritual life, family, close friends, finance and future. You start planning out your future around the priorities mentioned above that you never had any clue 2 years ago. You choose your friends wisely to the point of thinking 10 times before accepting those who add you on Facebook or request to follow you on Instagram.

5. Change in Expenditures
Funny how when you grow older, you earn more than before but you get to spend less... Commitments like study loan, car loan, insurance and bills creep in. You think more than twice if you should buy that RM39.90 bag. You put it into the cart wish for it to be on sale item list before you hit the check out button. You (try to) learn how to budget and fail numerous times. But you still try... By downloading the perfect financial app from the app store hoping it would help your financial status. Haha!

Although some of the changes I mentioned seem sad, I am still enjoying life so please don't be too afraid to grow old  up. Peace out!

Thank you for reading!

Hard Rock Hotel Penang is back with their splendid spread of holly jolly Christmas buffets this December! Let me just talk about the good ol' times... Nobody knows the feeling of missing a place as much as I missed Hard Rock Hotel Penang. Oh, the smell, the sound, the entire ambiance! It felt so so good to be back to where I belong. It felt like home... Just like going home for Christmas!

This year Hard Rock Hotel Penang will be offering its Christmas spreads on 24th and 25th December. There will be a buffet dinner on Christmas Eve and buffet lunch on Christmas Day.

On Christmas Eve, there will be a Rock N' Roll Buffet at Starz Diner from 6.30pm to 10.30pm. Read on for more info on the pricing and other stuff at the bottom of this post! I am so fortunate to be able to taste some of the delectable picks from the spread. Patrons get to enjoy a wide selection of yummy food from seafood on ice, sushi bar, carving station, action station, Asian cuisine and more. The highlight of the buffet as suggested by the hotel is the Confit of Duck Leg & Pink Radish with Cinnamon Apple. I personally tasted this dish and I would say that it did not disappoint. I am a duck meat fan and I love the blend of savory and sweet in this dish especially the cinnamon apple strips. They go so well with the duck leg!

Seafood Paella with Saffron Rice (Christmas Day)

Turkey Consomme with Mushroom Dumpling (Christmas Eve)
The Mushroom dumpling is da bomb! I have never tasted this before. It's something like ravioli but not ravioli, such a smart invention to mix Asian and Western cuisine. Good job, chef! The dumplings will be served with soup. It's such a warm dish. I love this!

Grilled Tahini Lamb Chop anf Lamb Kofta on Baba Ghanouj

Roasted Whole Turkey and Spiced Chestnut Bread Stuffing with

Hello everyone! I turned 27 about 3 days ago. Hah! Now you know how OLD I am. Age is just a number okay... (Consoling myself) It doesn't mean you enjoy less when you grow older. It depends on who you surround yourself with and the small choices you make every day.

Almost every year I have a story to tell.. How my friends and loved ones celebrate with me etc. This year, nothing new! Haha sorry I am loved. Lol! I had 5 surprises up till my real birthday. I cannot thank all my friends enough for everything they've given me. Time, effort, money and most of all - love. Serene, my bff appeared in majority of the celebrations because BFF. HAHA so thankful and grateful for this 16 years of friendship!

Joanne celebrated with me over a glamorous steamboat dinner followed by a cute little pot cake... She also got me gifts! Thanking God for a thoughtful friend...

My best friends from high school surprised me during my lunch time and some of them took Uber all the way here (30-40 mins away!). Got another cake, free lunch, balloons and presents!

Best friends from Hard Rock, BFF & Raileighgirl surprised me for lunch time again just few days before my birthday!

When I returned to work and was really tensed while solving some mega technical problem, these people came into the meeting room with a cake and a song... They are my new colleagues! Say hi!

Celebrated with a super yummy cake during Life Group by a bunch of church friends on Friday night. I'm carrying Elena (my god dotter) she turned 2 a day before me. Ivan on my left is just a notty disturbing person. Hahaha! Again, a surprise. Haha it's not done yet!

And to top it off, the ultimate surprise that made me cry....

These guys!! I have no words to describe how grateful I am for them. The effort the BFF and all of them just made me speechless. What have I ever done to deserve this? No idea.

Thank you Hong, for the great hospitality at your place <3

Yummy Cake!!

Although not mentioned much in this post, to my love, thank you for everything you've done for me. Thank you for taking me out and spending my birthday with me. <3

BFF and I... Such a talented girl!
Thank you for setting up and clearing up the place, guys!

To Elin, Hong,Karen, Jesmine, Angeline, Carine, Jess... T H A N K Y O U ! !

Like I said, I am moved beyond words and have nothing much to say. Just really happy, content and feeling very blessed.

Bring it on, 27!

Thank you for reading!
