S E E K E E L E E

I think there are still many people who are unaware of how a girl's life works.
Well sometimes it may not be as bad as what the video shows
but to some other girls (like me) it may be worse.

My life in just 2 minutes here.

Good things happen to those who are thankful.

Sitting here in the hospital, waiting for my turn to see the doc and just thinking at how Blessed I am these few weeks (yes, again). I'm always very grateful for what I have and for everything that has happened not because I 'choose' to do so but I guess I'm just naturally like that and I think u can train yourself to be like that too if u want? Read somewhere that when u voluntarily do something for 21 times, it will turn into a habit? Haha! Try being thankful tho. In everything. So I was down with muscle spasm on my back just last week. It got so bad until I was admitted into the hospital for 3 days, 2 nights and all I did was Eat, Sleep, Physio, Repeat.

And I got A LOT of SLEEP! After thinking about what has happened, I began to realise that maybe this was God's way of letting me finally getting some rest and sleep my body needed. It was definitely a busy year for me up until November. And I was complaining that I was tired. Physically and mentally. I easily get annoyed. So I am thankful that my back suddenly experience this so I get some good rest.

Besides that, during this time I also got to see how much I am loved! HAHAHA! It wasn't a serious condition that I was diagnosed with or anything. It was merely some muscle tense and look at my colleagues who came to see me! There were many others who weren't in the photos who came and cheered me up. I'm so glad that my family was there for me too. So coincidentally my sis was back and parents weren't working . I was treated like a princess again .

Today many little wonderful things took place. My appointment with the Doc was supposed to be at 10.15am, I just finished my breakfast at 10am. To get to the hospital, it'll take 5 mins or so if I knew the way there. So I quickly got into my car and drove. I prayed a little prayer and got myself there on time! Yay! Knowing the this hospital, it's almost impossible to get a car park lot. Then I prayed a little prayer again, The moment I pressed the ticket, I saw someone leaving. Woohoo! I got a lot without even needing to search. Praise Jesus! So later on just now, I had my 7th physiotherapy session and as I was lying down, it came to mind that I actually wished to get a nice therapist to do the sessions for me coz I wanted someone whom I can be comfy with. I thank God for Kathleen as my therapist. She's a very gentle and sweet lady. I love her. And the final thing that happened was... During the session I was actually freezing coz my shirt was half opened and usually (in my previous 6 sessions), the therapy would end with an ice pack being placed on my back. However as I was feeling super cold just now, I prayed a little prayer once more... "God, I don't want an ice pack." Then Kathleen came in and said "today I will use a warm pack instead." I WAS ALL SMILES!!

Good things do happen to those who are thankful. Be thankful today!

OMG. HOW TO USE? WHAT ARE APPS?

2012, the year I first got myself a smartphone. And yes, I bought it with my own money ya. I had to 'work' for all the phones I owned . I remember the day I first touched a smart phone... It was alien. I am weird. I was very nervous not knowing how to operate and found it difficult to use in the beginning. I even thought of getting myself a spare phone (with keypads) just in case I give up learning. I soon learn about apps. What they are and how they work. It was sooo interesting. I was on my phone all the time trying out the photo editing apps etc. 2016 - mere 4 years from when I first got a smartphone. I'm so smartphone - savvy now u have no idea. So what I'm trying to say is, whether you're in a super awkward situation now or feel like you're in one, don't give up. Move on, you'll adapt to it anyway. Human beings are designed to adapt. You'll be fine. Trust me. ❤

Thank you for reading!

It's probably the time when everyone is getting their playlist ready - the Christmas playlist! Whether a Christian or not, I believe the most favourite festive season of the year (or of all time) is C H R I S T M A S coz it seems like most of my friends look forward to the yuletide season - and obviously yours truly's favourite time too! I am also forever grateful to be working in a hotel coz it means Christmas is celebrated extensively and also because I get to taste our yummy buffet spreads... We held a food tasting session for our Christmas & New Year's Eve Buffet Dinner last night hosting a group of media friends and it was such a fun one! Read on and you'll see it's not just the food but the company.

Every year, Hard Rock Hotel Penang celebrates Christmas & New Year's Eve with offerings in Starz Diner, Pizzeria and Hard Rock Cafe and I am honoured to be able to taste them before everyone gets to! Here's a combination of the Christmas & NYE buffet highlights served in Starz Diner.

Prawns & Peach Shooters (Christmas)

Salmon Gravlax Hinava (NYE)
Did You Know? Hinava is a traditional Kadazan-Dusun salad-like dish which is a combination fish, mixed with lime juice, bird's eye chili, slice shallots and grated gingers.

Gateau of Avocado, Tomato & Crabmeat Salad (NYE)
Did You Know? Gateau means a rich cake, typically one containing layers. This is the first time I'm trying a 'gateau' and I'd say it's not bad at all. I find this particular starter amusing coz when you eat the all the layers together, it seemed a little salty but when u eat the layers separately, you taste sourish, salty and creamy. Not sure if you get me here hahaha! Nvm, you should try it yourself then.
Asian Charred Baby Octopus (NYE)

I am a huge fan of baby octopus... But when the word 'baby' is there I feel so guilty munching them away. How do I overcome this please?! Anyway, all the starters were yummy and very appetizing and refreshing.

Now that we are done with the starters, now let's move on to the main dishes...

Roasted Turkey with Giblet Gravy & Cranberry Sauce
Glazed Nuts, Sage Bread Stuffing, Sweet Potato & Seasonal Veggie (Christmas)
Have you ever wondered why do we eat Turkey for Christmas? Like is there a particular interesting story to it? If you're wondering why... Find out yourself. Don't be a lazy bum! Read it here.

Seafood Nori Roulade with Cauliflower Puree & Red Capsicum Salsa (Christmas)

This is one of my favourite dishes! I have never tasted cauliflower puree in my life and it goes so so well with the roulade. The taste & texture is something like fish ball but obviously much better...

Blackened Red Snapper with Squid Ink Noodle & Cherry Tomato Stew (Christmas)
I think it's really smart to pair the tomato stew with the red snapper coz it eliminates the
'fishy smell'. I had quite a few pieces of this!

Crabmeat Otak-Otak with Chili Marmelade (NYE)
Otak-otak is usually made of ground fish meat mixed with tapioca starch and spices. But in this case, it is made of crabmeat and I tell you it is heaven on earth! Otak-otak is widely known across Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Wok-Fried Slipper Lobster with Dried Chili Flakes, Curry Leaf & Garlic (NYE)
This is the dish that has to be replenished every 15 minutes. Haha! Best seller? I find the meat a little hard and salty however, bearable. I wish I can have more but being the host YOU CAN'T BE GREEDY SO JUST SIT DOWN & KEEP QUIET. D:

Grilled Beef Steaks with Sundried Tomato Hollandaise (NYE)
You know this thing about beef, it's sometimes a love-hate relationship. In most cases, beef served in buffets tends to be tougher and I usually wouldn't go for them. But this one. This one though... I could not resist and I have no regrets! The meat is tender and the sauce goes really well with the meat. YUMZ!
Hello, Chef!

The spread...

Green Tea Panna Cotta (NYE)

Strawberry Fruit Meringue (Christmas)

Miniature Passion Fruit Cheese Cake (NYE)
This is my favourite dessert last night! The aroma from the Passion Fruit makes the cheese cake very refreshing. Not just plain sweet and creamy.

Chocolate & Cherry Yule Log Cake (Christmas)
Did You Know? Yule Logs are logs that are specially selected to be burnt on a hearth as a Christmas tradition.

Every year, I can't wait to see the display on the Yule Log cake coz our chefs are really good at decorating it. Just look at how cute the miniature deers, houses, trees and Santas are!!

Remember what I mentioned in the beginning that the night was nice not just because of the food? Have a look at what happened last night here:

Thank you, Barry for capturing the moment!

My boss, Angeline encouraged Hong and I to perform some Christmas Carols and we did it (with fear & trembling)! So happy to have crazy and sporting media friends to dance along too! It was really a funny night.

So here's the deal. After you've seen all the photos (taken with my Samsung Note 3) and my effort editing them, you should really consider Hard Rock Hotel Penang's offerings this coming jolly season!

Don't worry, let me provide you with the deets!

Celebrated Kung Kung's 85th birthday with a treat to Ocean Green.

This post will be about my grandfather, or what I call him, Kung Kung, in Cantonese. He was born in 1930, April 28th, the year of the horse, like how he likes to introduce himself. I was born 60 years later, also the year of the horse! And this is why he would say, we are alike. He is a strong willed, clumsy, generally fun and bubbly person I would say. Since I was a baby, both grandpa & grandma took care of me. Can't remember much but according to my parents, I was the only grandkid out of 5 who was taken care of by them. Poh Poh and Kung Kung love me very much. They technically brought me up until I was about 12...

My mom is a protective & caring person by nature. A 'worrier' some would suggest. This led her to telling Kung Kung NOT to take me out for jalan-jalan when I was little. Instruction was clear. We couldn't understand why she'd make such rule but hey, according to Kung Kung, rules are meant to be broken hah! He is a wanderer! Hates staying at home.

He always took me out. We would take buses to places. I can't remember much now but a few vivid memories remained. He used to bring me to Island Plaza. There was a restaurant that served good Western food. We both loved our lamb shoulder. Besides the mall, he would bring me to Esplanade or a village beside Tesco Tanjung Pinang to observe the fishermen. I even remember there was a crab that escaped from the net and chased after us. HAHA! You should give me pats on my shoulder for remembering this random incident.

Kung Kung was our (my little cousin & I) hero. Every time we went to the toilet to poop and when we were done, we'd shout "Kung Kung! Hou lo!" Which means "we're done" so that he could come into the toilet and clean our bum bums for us. What love is this? :)

He was also the one who introduced music to me and made me like music. He would record concerts aired on National TV on video tapes and then label them. I remember he used to play a lot of Celine Dion, Theresa Teng & Spice Girls' concerts and I would sit quietly to watch or at times, sing & dance along! Not forgetting the Chinese New Year songs by a group of little girls too! My sis and cousins would go crazy listening to those songs. Haha! During exams, he'd tell me that if I scored a certain amount of 'A's' he'd buy me my favourite album. And I really got what I wanted! He would bring me to the music store and I get to choose. I chose a compilation of songs that were hits at that time, (2000, I guess). I remember how happy I was, having the cassette. I'd play it on Poh Poh's radio everyday. Learn up the songs and sang with them.

As years go by, relationship with Kung Kung grew further apart as I no longer spend time at their house. If I did, they were during birthdays or family gatherings which was not often. I got busy through the years and also coz mom didn't want to burden them, I moved back to my own home. This means less yummy home cooked meals by Poh Poh too. So, back to grandpa, he was always this very funny (coz he's clumsy) old man. All my friends who know him can testify. They love him. He'd do things that are unthinkable. Once, he wore his dentures upside down and couldn't speak properly. Another time, during his birthday, he grabbed a 'knife' wanting to cut the cake but later on realised it was a baby corn that fell out from the plate. HAHAHA! I still giggle now thinking about this.

Poh Poh & Kung Kung - Taken early 2016 (Reunion dinner)
He is always the first to hand me my ang pao for my birthday. He loves to give. Even until today, he still gives. And I'm forever grateful. He would call and ask when I am free to collect from him. And when my sister's back from Johor, he'd want to treat all of us to a good meal. This is why I will never think twice to celebrate his birthday with him no matter what. I will make time for him. I will never forget all that he has done.

Brought Kung Kung to celebrate his 86th birthday.

Life is fragile and goes by so quickly. People age quickly too. This year, Kung Kung is 86 and had fallen down about 4 - 6 times. Twice I was there to help him in the hospital. The other times, my parents were there with him. It is now our responsibility. To be the ones to take care of him. However, as bubbly and fun as he is, he can be a pain too. Because of his lack of agility in his movements & inability to move like how he used to, it has caused him to turn a little bitter. Especially to mummy. She's always the one giving him advice, not to get out of the house looking at his condition now but he would again, not listen to her just like 15 - 20 years ago. He definitely has become a very frustrated person. Always shouting and very sensitive about every little thing people say (especially to mom). He still boasts to others that at his age now he still can walk to places run errands. Truth is, he is unstable. He trembles when he sees uneven ground and he would just walk on the spot (literally). I guess this is the result of having freedom for almost all his life and suddenly got 'controlled'.

His first fall was when he went to the bank alone and tripped.

The second fall remains a mystery. Nobody knows where he fell but mummy suspects it's at the bank/otw to the bank. He had his bank book with him.

This has put a strain on mummy. She's hurt. She's tired. She's speechless. And when I see her like this, I get affected too. Kung Kung is becoming someone we cannot understand anymore. You can't seem to make sense to him. He won't listen. The 1 person that I feel for the most besides him is my mom. She never gets to be in peace. It's almost like all her off days are filled with errands to run either for Poh Poh or Kung Kung. In fact, he just fell down again today (on mom's off day) and a kind soul called the ambulance and sent him to the hospital. He knocked his head and bled for the second time in just 2 months. He still has yet to accept that he can't move around or go wherever he wants to like old times. I guess he must be really frustrated too.

Mom and dad spent the whole day in hospital accompanying him. Another day without rest. I'm thinking of my mom's well being too. How she is always worrying for him. It's not good for her.
Seeing mom in this state kills me. She seems helpless. She did her best to his rescue but he doesn't really see that and would often pick fights with her. He would misunderstand her and jump into conclusions quickly. I can't even imagine how she would feel. Every time she sees a phone call from "Father" she would panic. I could only pray that God would intervene. That Kung Kung will accept his current physical condition. That he would be obedient to instructions. Pray with me...

Sheryn

My birthday is in 5 days and what on earth have I done to deserve so much love from my beloved colleagues??? I cannot comprehend. It was supposed to be just a casual dinner with them but it ended up with such a crazy good surprise! Although I find it super hard to accept that Carine told me a huge lie... :D

I was craving for something that I haven't tried before, Durian cake. I had a sudden crave JUST THIS MORNING on the way to work! And look at what they surprised me with??? A DURIAN CAKE! I dunno man. I was lost for words. I'm the happiest girl alive now. Also special thanks to Hong for being thoughtful... for choosing this flavour!! It's so extraordinary. Perfect for an extraordinary person like me! Eh kidding. It's my birthday I can say what a I want. HAHA!

Next, the surprise was Elin and Carine's appearances. They said they couldn't make it but suddenly both appeared in front of me. Not forgetting Karen and Jesmine. They did such a good wayang even finished a meal with me. Seriously!!

The other JOKE was my "birthday present" which was nicely wrapped. I felt a bit awkward when Carine was filming the entire time. Like as if something's gonna jump out from the box! As I unwrap slowly, I began to get more nervous.... and when I finally opened it. I wanted to roll my eyes until they go to the back of my head!! Hahaha! They got me a SHOE POLISH!! Suan me kao kao. 2 weeks ago I got a pair of "shiny" boots, apparently so shiny that so many people started teasing me. And this one tops it all! A SHOE POLISH!! HAHAHA! Anyway, I had such a good laugh, guys!

I thought that the surprise would have ended by now coz my heart really could no longer take anymore haha! So nerve wrecking I don't even know why. And I wished I dressed nicer last night -.-
Ok, back to the topic... I was looking for a server to bring out the cake so I turned around. And when I turned back, I was again surprised by another gift! This time, a big, black box. Wrapped nicely with red ribbon. Seriously it's so pretty I can't even! This time, it's the real gift from them... How crazy sweet are they??? And in the box, there are my super most wanted BB Cushion from Laneige, Laneige Cleansing Oil and Cream. And believe it or not, exactly what I needed! God is so good! He knows best and sent these angels to bless me.

These are my gifts in the box! (The following images are taken from Google Images):

And here are few of my 1 million expressions from last night captured by Hong...

I'm so so so eternally grateful for these people who spend their effort, time and money on me...

Love you guys to the moon and back!! (Photo: Carine)
